Account Deletion
Last updated: May 24, 2026. This page explains how to permanently delete your StartMessaging account and what happens to your data, API keys, and wallet balance when you do.
Before you delete
Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Before submitting a deletion request, we recommend you:
- Check your wallet balance. Any remaining balance can be refunded to your original payment method. Contact us first if you would like a refund — see our Refund & Billing Policy. Wallet balance is forfeited if a refund is not requested before deletion is processed.
- Download your message logs. Export any API usage history or transaction records you need from the dashboard before requesting deletion. These records are not available after your account is closed.
- Revoke your API keys. Update any production applications to stop sending API requests so that no new charges are incurred while deletion is processed.
How to request deletion
To delete your account, send a deletion request from the email address registered to your account:
- Email startmessagingdotcom@gmail.com with the subject line “Account Deletion Request”.
- Include your registered email address and, if available, the account identifier visible in your dashboard settings.
- State whether you would like any remaining wallet balance refunded before deletion (include the original payment method or bank details if applicable).
Alternatively, you can use our contact form and select “Account / Billing” as the topic.
What gets deleted
Within thirty (30) days of receiving your verified deletion request, we will:
- Permanently close your account and disable all API keys
- Delete your name, email address, and phone number from our active systems
- Remove your dashboard access and session data
- Purge your API request logs from operational databases
- Forfeit or refund any remaining wallet balance (depending on your request)
Data we are required to retain
Certain data must be retained after account deletion to comply with Indian financial regulations, telecom compliance rules, and tax law:
- Transaction records: Wallet top-up amounts, payment dates, and invoices are retained for a minimum of five (5) years as required under the Income Tax Act and GST regulations.
- Telecom delivery logs: Aggregate message counts and delivery receipts may be retained as required by TRAI compliance obligations.
- Fraud prevention records: If your account was flagged for suspicious activity, related records may be retained for investigation and legal purposes.
Retained data is held in secure, access-restricted archives and is not used for any commercial purpose. It will be deleted once the applicable retention period expires.
Timeline
- Acknowledgement: We will acknowledge your deletion request within 2 business days.
- Verification: We may ask you to confirm your identity before proceeding.
- Wallet refund (if requested): Processed within 7 business days before account deletion begins.
- Account closure: Completed within 30 days of your verified request.
After deletion
Once your account is deleted, you will no longer be able to log in, access your dashboard, or use your previous API keys. Deleted accounts cannot be reactivated. If you wish to use StartMessaging in the future, you will need to create a new account.
Your previously used email address can be registered again for a new account, but historical data from the deleted account will not be restored.
Your privacy rights
Account deletion is one way to exercise your right to erasure under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and, where applicable, the GDPR. For other privacy rights — such as accessing, correcting, or porting your data — see our Privacy Policy.
